1982 PAN expands its charter to include all professionals throughout the music industry.
1983 PAN buys a computer and a modem-thang;
World's first online network for music industry professionals established.
1984 All PAN resources are computerized and placed in online databases.
Downloadable Digital Audio Invented;
World's first Electronic Booking and Availability System initially implemented.
1985 World's first Synthesizer & MIDI Development Network established on PAN;
World's first database of downloadable Synth patches made available;
World's first database of downloadable Sample files made available;
Member list expands as a veritable who's who of MIDI and Music Technology.
World's first database of downloadable Songfiles made available;
World's first online service to actually turn a profit. 8-)
1986 World's first real-time online concert event (and simulated demonstration of streaming digital audio and video) hosted on PAN, featuring Claude Ciari, live on-stage from Tokyo, transmitting and receiving sequence data with PAN members in an interactive online conference.
Digital Interactive Fingerprinting (DIF) invented to detect and deter online music piracy.
Graphical interface "PANdoora" made available to members to automate online access.
1987 PAN and MMA members collaborate on standardizing MIDI Song-File formats and other extensions to the original MIDI specification.
World's first email-to-FAX gateway established.
World's first FAX-to-email gateway established.
1988 PAN integrates FAX technology within network operating system;
Support Hotline system enhanced to FAX support questions to over 250 companies.
PAN forums made available nightly via FAX.
World's first electronic royalty tracking and distribution system implemented
Graphical interface PANdoora renamed "PAN Messenger" for Mac and PC.
1990 pan.com established on the Internet.
Internet email and usenet newsgroups made available on PAN.
Music Research area opens on PAN.
1992 FTP, Telnet, WAIS, and Gopher made available on PAN.
World's first internet-based shopping mall opened for music gear and CD sales by PAN members
1994 Text-based interface to World Wide Web made available.
1996 PAN moves primary network operations to the World Wide Web.
