FOLKSINGER: Brian Clauss performs a wide variety of traditional and contemporary songs covering a wide range of American music, from bluegrass to blues, folk to rock, western to maritime. His powerful vocals are uniquely accompanied by the hammered dulcimer. The dulcimer is the oldest stringed instrument known and a direct ancestor of the piano. Consisting of a wide array of strings played with two small mallets, "hammers", it is capable of blinding speed or harp-like arpeggios. Usually used for instrumental music, Brian has built his own with twice the normal range for use in accompanying vocals and performing modern as well as traditional music.

Brian has performed since childhood, and lectured on folkmusic as well. His performances are all entertainment, however, ranging from the deeply emotional to just fun, haunting simplicity to rolling thunder. He has performed from Panama to Alaska and coast to coast for thirty years, from festivals to campfires.

He has two Cds, "Folksinger", which contains all traditional music while spanning a wide variety of genres; and "Gypsy Road", presently out of print, a collection of original songs that includes some of his earliest as well as latest compositions.
